Disney always saw it at this level throughout the weekend, however, rivals overestimated. Around the world, the Anne Hathaway-Meryl Streep-Emily Blunt-Stanley Tucci was truly the thing, racking up massive <strong>$233.6M WW<\/strong>, which is the second-best start for an MPA title this year behind <em>Super Mario Galaxy Movie <\/em>($372.5M)<em>. <\/em>Remember, the global project was a near $180M for <em>Devil Wears Prada 2. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMore jaw-dropping: The opening represents the highest opening weekend ever for Meryl Streep (domestically, internationally and globally), besting the $90M WW start for <em>Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again;<\/em> and Emily Blunt (internationally and globally) beating <em>Oppenheimer <\/em>(holy cow) which began with $176M WW. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOverseas start was <strong>$156.6M<\/strong>. Italy led all territories (when do we see that happen on a Hollywood movie?) with $16.6M; Milan making a major cameo in the movie with Lady Gaga. In Italy, the sequel is the No. 4 opening ever for a Hollywood movie. <em>The Devil Wears Prada 2<\/em> opened at #1 in all major markets except for France (#2) Spain (#2), Denmark (#2), Netherlands (#2), Sweden (#2) and Japan (#2),\u00a0posting the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0highest MPA international opening YTD.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWe\u2019ll get into the breakdown of overseas further in the international report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe opening global weekend alone has already earned 72% of the total cume for the original <em>The Devil Wears Prada<\/em> ($326.5M in reported).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEntertainment data firm EntTelligence figures 5M admissions for the sequel this past weekend in North America off an average ticket price of $14.56 and average PLF ticket of $17.91. Sixty-two percent of the audience came after 5PM yesterday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tUpdated premium large format results from Disney show 29% of the weekend coming from such up-charged. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFemale moviegoers were waiting for this movie, for 20 years: Nielsen reports that streaming viewership for the original movie was +428% from March 2026 to April 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe global tour for the movie kicked off in\u00a0Mexico City\u00a0with Hathaway and Streep before continuing to Tokyo, Seoul, and Shanghai. The entire cast reunited in New York, where a full Runway Magazine office was created for two\u00a0global press days\u00a0and the\u00a0world premiere\u00a0before flying across the pond to London for the\u00a0U.K. premiere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe\u00a0teaser trailer when it dropped at the end of December\u00a0generated\u00a0185M views\u00a0in the first 24 hours\u00a0making it the most-viewed 20th Century Studios Trailer ever,\u00a02nd most-viewed trailer of 2025 and the most-viewed trailer on Instagram last year. The second trailer garnered\u00a0222M Views\u00a0in 24 hours and the final trailer amassed\u00a067M views\u00a0in the first 24 hours, placing both above all comps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAll major foreign markets had custom media placements, including Germany with a\u00a0Shopping\u202fQueen\u00a0highlight integration during release week and a\u00a0Dyson integrated campaign\u00a0in Italy. Say, say, say what you want about front-loadedness, but clearly this second weekend is not. The second Sunday for the Antoine Fuqua directed movie will hold at -29% (with $16.4M) off Saturday\u2019s $23.2M (which by the way was very close to <em>Devil Wears Prada 2<\/em>\u2018s Saturday of $25M, wowza). Running cume is <strong>$183.8M <\/strong>through ten-days, +83% ahead of <em>Bohemian Rhapsody <\/em>at same point in time (which ended its domestic run at $216.4M). By EOD Monday, <em>Michael <\/em>will become Lionsgate\u2019s biggest pic stateside post Covid, kicking <em>John Wick: Chapter 4 <\/em>off the stage ($187.1M). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAll films this weekend have racked up an estimated $174M, +21% over the start of summer a year ago. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tChart coming\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>SATURDAY AM:<\/strong> <em><strong>The Devil Wears Prada 2<\/strong> <\/em>and <em><strong>Michael <\/strong><\/em>are doing their jobs to make the start of summer a bountiful one, respectively with <strong>$75M-$80M<\/strong> and an excellent hold by the Lionsgate movie of -48% or<strong> $51M<\/strong>.  As we told you, this weekend was bound to be higher than a year ago with all films currently totaling around $173M, +20%. Global B.O. for the $100M <em>Devil Wears Prada 2<\/em> is up to <strong>$114.6M <\/strong>with $82.1M from overseas alone. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<em>Devil Wears Prada 2<\/em>\u2018s Friday came in at $32.5M, very close to where we saw it. Again, will there be a date night\/ladies night continued surge into tonight? Saturday estimates are between $24.8M-$27M. Even if <em>Devil Wears Prada 2 <\/em>comes in at $75M, va bene. Pre-sales were big yesterday, but walk-up business, we\u2019re told, slowed. Still a great start for this 20-year-old property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tVery strong turnout by women at 75% with a strong definite recommend of 76%. Broken out, there were 63% women over 25, 22% men over 25, 12% women under 25, and 2% men under 25. Older skewing audience with the over 45 bunch repping 36% and the over 55 demo showing up at a big 22% alone. PostTrak exits said that 51% of the audience came for the cast alone, 43% for the actresses and 42% because it\u2019s part of a franchise they love. Diversity demos were 48% Caucasian, 28% Hispanic and Latino, 12% Black and 7% Asian American. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci movie gets an A- CinemaScore, which is higher than the first film\u2019s B. How is that? Back in the old pre-Covid CinemaScore days, movies based on books were graded harder by female audiences given their adaptation. PLFs are driving a third of the weekend\u2019s U.S. business. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe David Frankel-directed film is playing strong everywhere, but best in the East, South Central and West with the AMC Lincoln Square in NYC the top grossing location with $156K-plus through Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWeekend 2 PostTrak exits for <em>Michael <\/em>are still an awesome 86% definite recommend, and overall still female skewing at 58%. Diversity demos are very strong with 30% Black, 30% Caucasian, 29% Hispanic and Latino and 7% Asian American. The 18-34 are showing up at 43% while over 45 is 36% and over 55 is 22%. PostTrak gives it a 59% definite recommend. The opening here is higher than NEON\u2019s <em>Immaculate<\/em>\u2018s $5.3M which was a home-run for them at a low cost\/distribution deal. Fifty-two percent guys, 18-34 is 67%. Diversity demos are 57% Caucasian, 20% Latino and Hispanic, 9% Black and 9% Asian American. Best area of play is the West where 28% of the gross is coming from versus 23% for all other titles.
